Konstantinos N. Syrigos, MD, PhD, FCCP, is Professor of Medicine and Oncology at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Director of the 3rd University Department of Internal Medicine and its affiliated laboratory at SOTIRIA General Hospital. He graduated from NKUA in 1988 and trained in Internal Medicine and Oncology at Laiko General Hospital and at the Oncology Department of Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London. He was awarded his MD with distinction in 1995 and his PhD from Imperial College, University of London, in 2000.

He worked as a Consultant in the Oncology Departments of Hammersmith and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals in London before being appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Athens in 2002. He has been Visiting Professor of Thoracic Oncology at Yale School of Medicine, Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital since 2008, and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine since 2012. He is Scientific and Programme Director of two postgraduate programmes of the Medical School of Athens, on new drug development and on thoracic oncology, and in 2020 founded the 2nd COVID-19 Clinical Unit at SOTIRIA General Hospital.

His main fields of scientific interest are clinical research and new drug development, immuno-oncology and thoracic oncology. He has participated in more than 200 Phase I-IV clinical trials and has served as Global Principal Investigator and steering committee member of numerous international studies. He is editor of 14 international medical volumes and author of more than 600 international publications, with over 26,000 citations and an h-index above 72. He is a member of ASCO, AACR, ACCP, IASLC, ESMO and ERS, and has served as President of the Board of SOS Children’s Villages Greece (2018-2023) and, since 2020, of the Hellenic Lung Cancer Society.
