Paris A. Kosmidis

Director, 2nd Department of Medical Oncology, HYGEIA Hospital

Paris A. Kosmidis, MD, medical oncologist, was born in Athens in 1946 and is currently Director of the 2nd Department of Medical Oncology at HYGEIA Hospital. He is a graduate and Doctor of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and completed his training in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital, Michigan, USA (1973-1980).

He previously served as Director of the 2nd Department of Medical Oncology at Agioi Anargyroi Hospital (1981-1985) and at Metaxa Hospital (1985-1997). He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology, and holds the European qualification in Medical Oncology awarded by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He is a founding member of several Greek oncology organisations, including the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group, the Hellenic Foundation for Cancer Research and the Hellenic Society of Digestive Oncology, and has been principal investigator in numerous clinical studies in Greece and abroad.

He is the author of numerous books and articles in international oncology journals and has served on the editorial boards of several international scientific publications. He has been awarded twice by the Academy of Athens, has received honours from oncology societies worldwide, and is an honorary member of ESMO and of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology. He served as President of the 23rd European Congress of Medical Oncology in Athens in 1998, National Representative of Greek oncologists to ESMO, President of ESMO (2004-2006), President of the ESMO Foundation, and Visiting Professor at the University of Colorado, USA. He has also chaired the Oncology Committee of the Ministry of Health and the Scientific Committees of Metaxa, Agioi Anargyroi and HYGEIA Hospitals.
