His main research interest is the biology of bone disease in multiple myeloma and the effect of bone-targeted agents and different anti-myeloma therapies on bone metabolism. He has studied the role of modern imaging, including WBLDCT and DWI-MRI, and of minimal residual disease in plasma cell neoplasms, and during the COVID-19 pandemic evaluated the kinetics of humoral immunity after infection and after immunisation against SARS-CoV-2 in cancer patients. He is principal investigator in several investigator-initiated Phase 1/2 myeloma studies and has participated in the majority of Phase 3 studies of novel agents in the field.

His research work has been reported in more than 750 peer-reviewed papers, with over 35,000 citations and an h-index of 92 in Web of Science and more than 55,000 citations and an h-index of 112 in Google Scholar. He is a Councillor of the European Hematology Association Board, co-chairs the Bone Sub-Committee of the International Myeloma Working Group, is a member of the Guideline Subgroup of the European Myeloma Network and Vice-President of the Greek Myeloma Study Group. He is Editor-in-Chief of the International Myeloma Society Newsletter and Associate Editor of the American Journal of Hematology.
