Alexander J. Stratigos, MD, is Professor of Dermatology-Venereology at the University of Athens and, since 2020, Chairman of the 1st Department of Dermatology-Venereology at Andreas Sygros Hospital.
He is also Director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Center at Andreas Sygros Hospital and a Visiting Scientist at the Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. His clinical and research interests include melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, with particular emphasis on their epidemiology, prevention and treatment. He has experience in more than thirty Phase II-III clinical trials as principal investigator and has conducted pivotal trials on systemic treatments and immunotherapy for non-melanoma skin cancer.
He has authored or co-authored more than 400 articles on melanoma and skin cancer, psoriasis, cutaneous photosensitivity and lasers, and is an editorial board member of various international journals. He is the main author of the European guidelines for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and co-author of the European guidelines for BCC, melanoma, DFSP, Kaposi sarcoma and Merkel cell carcinoma. He has held administrative and committee positions in several professional societies, including the EADO, where he is current Vice-President, and the Hellenic Society of Dermatology-Venereology, and served as President of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (2020-2022).
