Andreas Papapetropoulos is a pharmacist who earned his PhD in Pharmacology at the Medical College of Georgia, USA, and continued his training as a postdoctoral researcher at the Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine, Yale University.

On his return to Greece he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and then as Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Patras, before returning to NKUA in 2013. He is Professor of Pharmacology and Director of the Pharmacology Laboratory at the Department of Pharmacy, NKUA, and an Affiliated Investigator at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens. He has held adjunct and visiting professorships at Maastricht University, McGill University, LSU, UTMB and UMDNJ.

His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of drug action and the preclinical evaluation of drugs. He has published 204 papers in peer-reviewed journals that have received 28,000 citations (h-index 76), has served on the editorial boards of journals published by the British and American Pharmacological Societies and the American Heart Association, and has reviewed for more than 60 international journals and 26 private and state funding bodies in Europe, America and Asia. He is an elected Fellow of the American Society of Cardiology and the British Pharmacological Society, and President of the Federation of European Pharmacological Societies (EPHAR).
