Prof. Cleomenes Barlos

Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, University of Patras

Cleomenes Barlos was born in Patras in 1949. He received his Bachelor’s degree and his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Munich in 1976, with doctoral research on the synthesis and spectroscopy of boranes, organosilicon and organophosphorus compounds.

In 1980 he joined the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at the University of Patras as a Special Scientist and advanced through the academic ranks to Professor. He taught Organic Chemistry and Peptide and Combinatorial Chemistry, and conducted research on amino acid derivatives, specialty polymers and the synthesis of peptides and small proteins.

In 1990 he founded Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Laboratories of Patras S.A. (CBL S.A.). Since 2021 he has been principal shareholder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Hellenic Centre for Additive Manufacturing (EKEPEK S.A.), whose main activity is in 3D printing, and he has recently founded Patras Advanced Technologies IKE, focusing on oligonucleotide technologies. Since May 2015 he has served as President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Enterprises and Industries of the Peloponnese and Western Greece.
