Kyriakos E. Kypreos received his PhD in 1998 from the Boston University Medical School Division of Graduate Medical Sciences and completed postdoctoral training at the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute, Boston University Medical Center (1998-2002) and at Leiden University Medical Center, Department of Human Genetics (2002-2004). He returned to the USA as Instructor and, in 2006, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, and served on the scientific advisory board of KOS Pharmaceuticals from 2001 to 2007.

In 2008 he was elected Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the School of Health Sciences of the University of Patras, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2013. Since 2014 he has been Director of the Pharmacology Laboratory of the Medical Department, where he established the Center for Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, and since 2019 he has also been Visiting Professor of Pharmacology and Metabolic Disorders at the European University Cyprus. His research addresses the pharmacology of metabolic syndrome, focusing on the lipid and lipoprotein transport system and the identification of new pharmacological targets and lead compounds.

He is a former EMBO fellow, received a Marie Curie research grant in 2000 and the Irvine H. Page Atherosclerosis Study Award of the American Heart Association in 2001. He is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Pharmacology and an editorial board member of the American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, Nutrients and the Journal of Biomedical Research. He is an elected member of the Board of the Hellenic Atherosclerosis Society, served as Vice-President of the National Committee for Pharmacovigilance (2016-2024), and has been a member of the Health Technology Assessment Committee of the Ministry of Health.
