Nicholas K. Moschonas is Professor Emeritus of Medical Molecular Genetics and former Director of the Department of General Biology at the School of Medicine, University of Patras, and an Affiliated Researcher of the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences
(ICE-HT), FORTH. He was trained in biology at the Universities of Patras and Athens, in comparative developmental and evolutionary biology at Harvard University, and, as an EMBO postdoctoral fellow, in medical molecular genetics at the National Institute for Medical Research, MRC, London.

He served as a faculty member of the Department of Biology, University of Crete, directing the Human Molecular Genetics Laboratory (1984-2006) with a joint appointment at IMBB-FORTH, and as Professor of Biology and Medical Molecular Genetics at the University of Patras School of Medicine (2006-2020). He has been a member of the National Research and Technology Council, National Delegate of Greece for the FP7 Cooperation-Health Programme (2006-2010), and, since 2022, a member of the National Commission for Bioethics and Technoethics.

His research covers medical molecular genetics, functional genomics and network medicine, with emphasis on the molecular architecture of genetic diseases and the reconstruction and analysis of protein interactomes and diseasomes. His group participated in the international Human Genome Project for 15 years. He has coordinated 11 international and 26 national competitive research programmes and published more than 90 peer-reviewed papers in journals including Nature, Cell and PNAS. He is chief scientific editor of the Greek editions of 10 international university textbooks.
