Pharmaceutical Awards Eligibility Criteria

Best Nutraceutical Product

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR GREECE

With a focus on research into naturally occurring biomolecules, an increasing number of companies are pioneering the development and clinical validation of specially designed nutraceuticals. Through investment in research and clinical studies, these innovative products contribute both to patient stabilization, serving as a supportive measure against chronic and autoimmune diseases, and to the management of symptoms, thereby helping to improve patients’ quality of life.

Nutraceuticals differ from conventional dietary supplements in their intended purpose and potential therapeutic application.

  • Nutraceuticals are intended not only to supplement the diet but also to provide specific physiological and/or therapeutic benefits, including potential applications in the prevention and/or management of disease.
  • Nutraceuticals may comprise a single bioactive compound or a defined combination of bioactive ingredients. Their development and use are increasingly supported by scientific research and clinical evidence aimed at achieving specific health or therapeutic outcomes while potentially minimizing adverse effects compared with conventional therapeutic interventions.

The therapeutic potential of bioactive compounds derived from natural sources is gaining increasing scientific and clinical interest, particularly in the context of chronic diseases and conditions in which nutritional and pharmacological approaches may complement one another.

Products submitted for consideration for the Prix Galien Greece 2027 Awards must have received marketing authorization in Greece between January 1st 2022 and April 30th 2026, inclusive.

QUALITATIVE CRITERIA

Candidate products may belong to any therapeutic category. However, the Awards will be conferred to those products that contribute to improving patients’ quality of life or saving lives, based on the following two criteria:

  1. What degree of innovation was demonstrated throughout the scientific development of the product, including its mechanism of action and clinical utility?
  1. What is the potential contribution of the product to the future advancement of medical science through its introduction into clinical practice?

Only one winner shall be selected in each Award category. However, in the event of a tie involving one or more candidates, the Jury shall have the right to designate an additional winner under the Hors Prix distinction.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Product originality and innovation — the product should demonstrate a distinctive formulation or innovative approach and should not represent another nutraceutical with substantially equivalent composition or intended use.
  • Clinical evidence — clinical studies supporting the beneficial effects of the product in specific health conditions.
  • Population-specific evidence — relevant studies, where available, targeting specific population groups.
  • Enhanced bioavailability — formulations or dosage forms demonstrating improved bioavailability.
